How To Safely Celebrate 4/20

4/20/20 – Thanks to all who took our advice to #FlattenThe420Curve and stocked up in advance for 420 celebrations this year, instead of crowding retailers on 4/20.

There are lots of opportunities to celebrate online that support reform groups and/or COVID charities.

Don’t Go to Hippie Hill This Year (or Gather Anywhere Else)

The April 20 celebration at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco has been cancelled. SF’s Mayor London Breed has announced that Robin Williams Meadow will be fenced off, and officers will patrol the area, making sure people don’t gather there or elsewhere. “We will not allow this unsanctioned event to occur this year, especially in the height of a pandemic,” Breed said.

Her pledge to cite and arrest people is real: It’s technically still illegal to smoke (or vape) in the park, so violators could be cited for that, as well as charged with a misdemeanor with a $1000 fine for violating sheltering orders. The same is true anywhere in the state.

On Twitter and Facebook, Breed suggested an alternative: “Order food. Watch Netflix. Stay home and stay safe.”

Think About Edibles Instead

To keep safe during this time, avoid sharing bongs, pipes, vape pens, etc. with others and continually keep your personal collection clean, using 90%+ Isopropyl Alcohol as an effective and affordable way to clear any germs or pathogens off your pieces.

Further, because COVID-19 is a respiratory illness, some of you may wish to limit or avoid their exposure to combustive smoke — as this can put undue stress and strain on the lungs. Alternative delivery devices, such as vaporizer heating devices can significantly mitigate combustive smoke exposure, and of course, the use of edibles or tinctures can eliminate smoke exposure entirely.

Avoid obtaining cannabis products, and vape-pens especially, from the unregulated market, as these products are of variable purity and quality and may be tainted with mold or adulterants.

And remember to plan in advance — avoid unnecessary trips to either marijuana retailers or dispensaries on 4/20, when these establishments may be more crowded than usual and physical distancing may be more difficult;
